Course Description
This course is designed for gender-based violence service providers, healthcare professionals, counsellors, social service workers, youth-serving professionals, community organizations, and others involved in the design or delivery of care.
Grounded in findings from TransCare+’s youth-led community-based research, the course examines what meaningful access to GBV services looks like for rurally-located queer and gender-diverse youth. Learners will consider how geography, trust, confidentiality, gender affirmation, referral pathways, organizational processes, and provider capacity shape whether services are actually usable and safe.
The course moves beyond individual competency to examine organizational and system-level responsibility. Learners will explore practical strategies for safer disclosure, affirming intake and documentation, stronger referral practices, meaningful youth engagement, community partnerships, and creating services where inclusion is demonstrated through practice rather than simply stated as a value.
