Course Description
This course is designed for friends, family members, partners, peers, chosen family, and community members who support queer and gender-diverse youth affected by gender-based violence.
Learners will explore how to respond to disclosure in ways that are affirming, trauma-informed, and centred on the person experiencing violence. The course focuses on listening without judgment, respecting autonomy, protecting privacy, avoiding unintentional outing, and offering practical support without taking over decision-making.
Particular attention is given to the realities of rural, northern, and remote communities, where transportation, confidentiality, limited service options, and reduced anonymity can shape help-seeking. Learners will also explore community care, service navigation, healthy boundaries, and how to remain supportive while building a broader and more sustainable network of care.
