TransCare+ stands in solidarity with New Brunswick teachers and 2SLGBTQIA+ students.
TransCare+ stands in solidarity with New Brunswick teachers and 2SLGBTQIA+ students. 2SLGBTQIA+ students have the right to feel seen and have their education support ALL of who they are. TransCare+ will proudly be joining 2SLGBTQIA+ community allies, activists, and organizations to show our support for Policy 713: SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) and the essential work of Pride in Education.
Following an anti-SOGI protest that occurred on Friday, May 5th at the NBTA PD sessions, the New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development confirmed that it will be reviewing Policy 713, a policy designed to support 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
Policy 713, enacted in 2020, is a policy that sets out the bare minimum requirements for school districts to create a safer, welcoming learning environment for 2SLGBTQIA+ students. This life-saving policy is now under review and under fire from hateful, queerphobic, and transphobic rhetoric.
We call on the New Brunswick Provincial Government to reaffirm Policy 713 and keep PRIDE in Education. Sexual orientation and gender identity are protected grounds under the Federal and New Brunswick Human Rights Code (Bill C-16) and we ask NB to uphold 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, education, and freedom.
To all of the educators, student leaders, and allied activists doing this important work, we see you, we hear you, and we stand with you.
Still we persist.
In Warmth and Solidarity,
TransCare+
