Summit Summary

In November of 2023, TransCare+ proudly hosted its inaugural 2SLGBTQIA+ Health and Wellness Summit, under the transformative theme, “Queering Care: Crafting Radical 2SLGBTQIA+ Futures.” This groundbreaking event marked a significant milestone in the journey towards better care for all.

The Summit was designed with the objective to empower 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals through a wealth of knowledge, practical tools, and robust support systems, specifically tailored to address their unique health and wellbeing needs. Spanning an entire week, the Summit offered a comprehensive approach to the holistic care of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

A key highlight of the Summit was the involvement of 24 esteemed presenters, all leaders within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, who led a series of curated events. These events were designed to nurture the spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. The format included 4 panel presentations, 3 webinars, 7 workshops, and 10 engaging quick talks and e-poster presentations, allowing for a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights.

The Summit witnessed an impressive attendance of 348 individuals, a testament to its reach and impact. Participants came from all 13 provinces and territories of Canada, showcasing a national scope. Moreover, the Summit crossed international borders, attracting attendees from the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and Greenland. This diverse participation underscored the global relevance of the Summit’s theme and its resonance within the broader 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

The 2023 TransCare+ 2SLGBTQIA+ Health and Wellness Summit set a new precedent in ‘Queering Care,’ not just as a concept, but as a tangible, impactful movement towards crafting radical futures for 2SLGBTQIA+ people worldwide.

To our esteemed presenters, thank you for sharing your insights, expertise, and experiences. Your contributions were invaluable in fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing queer and gender diverse individuals.

To our dedicated staff and volunteers, your tireless efforts and commitment were the backbone of this summit. Your coordination, support, and enthusiasm created an environment conducive to learning, sharing, and collaboration.

A special thanks to our graphic recorder, Sara Yukimoto-Saltman, for beautifully capturing the essence of our discussions and presentations, providing us with a visual legacy of our collective work.

We are also immensely grateful to our funders, Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE), whose support was crucial in bringing this event to life. This summit was a key part of the larger WAGE-funded project, “Queer and Gender Diverse Access to Knowledge Enhancement and Care Navigation.” With their support, we are able to succeed in our mission to develop community-led initiatives that empower and uplift  queer and gender diverse communities. The knowledge shared, connections made, and strategies developed during the summit have laid a strong foundation for our ongoing work.
